WATCH THIS SPACE or contact us to go on the reserve list, or to be informed of future courses.
Fees: £80 per person
Set in the beautiful countryside around Howden Park Farm in the Aire Valley, this is an ideal venue for our hedge laying course. The course runs over two days and is aimed at beginners / novices, therefore no previous experience is required. Edward Kyrke, experienced local hedge layer, will be our tutor for the weekend as we work on a native mixed hedge planted around eight years ago. We will learn about the history of hedgerows in the British countryside and the various county styles of hedge laying. We hope to have a fairly informal approach to the weekend, so as well as learning new skills it will be a lot of fun.
Day 1
10:00 – 15:30 (12:30 Lunch)
Introduction to hedge laying and overview of course. Students shown how to use the traditional tools of the trade safely. Working in pairs initially to learn the basic technique of hedge laying.
Day 2
10:00 – 15:30 (12:30 Lunch)
Reinforcing the skills learnt on day one by working on your own 10m stretch of hedgerow.
