Gifted & Green

At present, this topic area consists of the 'Young, Gifted & Green Project' - which is funded to be innovative in its approach, addressing perception barriers towards active involvement in the "environment" sectors by clients of diverse cultural communities.

The projects is funded to target clients between 16 - 24 years of age, and those who come from all "minority" backgrounds; although people of all ages and cultural heritage can become involved, even though they will not count towards the funding 'outputs' (target figures). This approach has been designed to engage a wider range of hard to reach clients, and to avoid discrimination & segregation.

The project runs in various areas of Bradford and its districts. It strives to build a strong base of partnerships with other service providers, groups, individuals and business; and supports community initiatives.

The Young, Gifted & Green project was set up to further understanding of the barriers faced by (targeted) clients who have not been actively involved in the various "environment" sectors. It seeks to promote innovative solutions, one-to-one, based on individual and group needs and aspirations. Findings are being collated and will be presented towards the end of the current project in mid May 2005.

The project is funded by B-EQUAL with European Social Fund co-financing.

New funding bids are being developed to expand the remit and scope of this work, and for a similar client base, to facilitate sustainable support to the many clients encountered who need this. The project has highlighted, to date, a very high level of interest, especially from "Asian" origin clients, who are keen to take up these opportunities.
