Where is the Forest of Bradford?
Forest of Bradford is the name of the project not an actual woodland. It's a community woodland project, whose aim is to plant one million trees in Bradford District. Trees are planted at various sites, which are listed on our website. Click here to view planting sites/dates.
What types of tree are planted?
Forest of Bradford plants a variety of native broad leaved trees including Oak, Ash, Rowan, Willow, Holly, Hazel and Hawthorn. Which trees we plant depends on the trees that are native to the individual area.
Are the trees permanent?
The trees we plant, especially for Gift a Tree are permanent. Forest of Bradford, will also undertake a 3 year maintenance programme to ensure the tree's survival.
Is there public access?
All the trees planted through our Gift a Tree scheme are on publicly accessible land or rights of way.
When are the trees planted?
Trees must be planted during Winter (Nov - Mar). Forest of Bradford has regular planting sessions throughout the season.
Can I come and plant the tree?
Forest of Bradford are always looking for volunteers to help on tree planting days. We have regular volunteer days on Wednesdays all year round and Saturdays throughout Winter. Click here to view planting sites and dates. You can just turn up at the site, or there is minibus transport available from the BEAT office, leaving at 9.30am. Please book in advance by phoning or emailing Ian Butterfield (01274 253440).
Can I mark my tree with somebody's name?
We are often asked, especially for trees in memory, if the tree can be marked with a plaque. Forest of Bradford trys to keep its woodlands as natural as possible and therefore does not mark the trees it plants in any way. Sadly, plaques are often vandalised and this is costly to maintain and also distressing when they have been been vandalised, especially for trees in memory. I hope you will understand and enjoy your tree being as nature intended, just a well cared for tree.
Can I pay by cheque, I don't like paying online?
Yes, a cheque is fine. We will send out your gift card(s) once payment has been received. Please download and print the order form to accompany your cheque. Please make cheques payable to Bradford Environmental Action Trust.
Can I pay over the phone?
Yes you can pay over the phone, but we would ask that wherever possible you order and pay online as this helps us to keep our costs down.
Will I get a receipt?
If you order and pay online PayPal automatically send a receipt via email. If you've opted to pay by cheque and require a receipt, please mark on the order form, and we will send one by email or post.
Do you post the gift cards to recipients?
Generally, no. We will post the giftcard to you so that you can write a personal message to the recipient.
What does the gift card say?
The card says that Forest of Bradford have planted a tree on behalf of the recipient and explains a little about the scheme. There is also a box for you to write a personal message.
How long does it take / when will I receive my card?
You should receive your card within 5-7 days, though we try to send it out no more than 48 hours after receiving the order. If you're in a hurry you can call us first and check that we can meet your deadline. Our staff try our utmost to ensure that we can accommodate you.
Can I Gift a Tree all year round?
You can Gift a Tree for any occasion. People have planted trees for occasions such as weddings, birthdays, remembrance, christenings, anniversaries, leaving a job, moving abroad, retirement and many more.
Why has the price gone up?
To fully cover the costs of the project and ensure the scheme is sustainable, it has been necessary to increase the price slightly, but we know that our scheme remains one of the best value for money schemes there are, and it's local.
I've called the office but there's no answer?
The Forest of Bradford staff team spend most of their time out of the office planting trees and the like and our administration team are part time so hopefully that explains why sometimes there's nobody available to answer the phone but please leave a message on the answerphone, or send an email to admin@beat.org.uk, and we'll get back to you as soon as possible
